Nature's Bounty: Nature-Inspired Art
March 7 - April 19, 2014

Over the years, students at the Delaware College of Art and Design (DCAD) have partnered with the Delaware Museum of Natural History in many ways. Through their coursework they have volunteered time to develop exhibition materials, and utilized their knowledge of photography, illustration and painting for the benefit of the Museum. In 2011, DCAD students created unique artwork for the collaborative Natural Attraction: Nature-Inspired Art exhibition, held here at the Delaware Museum of Natural History.

This year, DCAD and the Museum have teamed up again to present Nature’s Bounty: Nature-Inspired Art, a collection of artwork inspired by nature, ranging from representational subjects to the abstract. The artwork represents a wide range of technique from students enrolled in the College’s six majors of study: Animation, Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Illustration, Interior Design, and Photography. The students—and a few DCAD alumni—submitted more than 60 works for consideration in the exhibition. A jury of artists and representatives from local cultural institutions selected 31 from that pool for inclusion in the exhibition.

The framing of the student artwork was undertaken by the Production and Imaging Technologies career program at Delcastle Technical High School. This program offers students who receive special education services an opportunity to learn and to apply principles of employability skills and customer service through the use of technology and computer-assisted equipment.

The Nature’s Bounty exhibition is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
