Celebrate Penguin Week, April 20-28, 2013

Enjoy a week in pursuit of fun penguin facts from April 20-28! The Museum will celebrate penguins all week long in conjunction with World Penguin Day on April 25.  Get up close with penguins from our collection (including specimens from Admiral Richard Byrd’s Antarctic expeditions of the early 1900s); explore penguin science stations; create a penguin craft to take home; listen to penguin story in our Nature Nook; or meet a real penguin keeper who will be on site on Sunday, April 21 between noon – 2 p.m. to explain what it’s like working with penguins and what it takes to care for a penguin on a daily basis.

Penguin Week Schedule:

  • Saturday, April 20:   Penguin Week Kick Off –9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
    - Saturday Storytime presented by Ursuline Academy:  “Penguins“ by Liz Pichon at 11 a.m.
    - Penguins on display throughout the Museum
    - "March of the Penguins" in the Auditorium and Penguin Cam in the Nature Nook
  • Sunday, April 21:  Penguin Week Celebration Continues – noon - 4:30 p.m.
    - “Meet A Penguin Keeper!” noon, 12:30 p.m., 1 p.m., 1:30 p.m.
    Ever want to know what it’s like to work with penguins on a daily basis?  Now's your chance to find out!  Danni Logue, penguin keeper at Jenkinson’s Aquarium, will be on site in our auditorium for four penguin keeper talks!  Ask her questions, hear her stories…it'll make you love our feathered friends even more!
