Explore the lives of dinosaurs from hatching eggs to their extinction millions of years later – and where dinosaurs are today – at Discovery Days: Dinosaurs and more! For four days over winter break, Sunday,  December 27 through Wednesday, December 30, Discovery Days offers different themes every day with activities for kids of all ages, including the current special exhibit, Tiny Titans: Dinosaur Eggs and Babies.

Ticket price: $9 at the door. Member price: $5 at the door. Sustaining members and up are free. 

Pre-sale ticket ordering is now closed, but you can still buy tickets at the door, AND get $20 off membership at the door!

Just confirmed: Food trucks! Enjoy Mojo Loco on Sunday, and Mama Mia on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. And Garry and the Complainers will rock out on Wednesday afternoon.

 

Sunday, December 27th – Baby Dinosaurs.

  • Spotlight Tours: Eggs
  • Explore the fossil touch table and the Museum’s own dinosaurs.
  • Bring your own fossils and try to stump the paleontologist, with our friends from Delaware Valley Paleontological Society.
  • Discover the life of a hatchling dinosaur at a puppet show for young visitors at 1:00, 2:00 and 3:00 p.m.
  • Story Time in the Nature Nook – 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m.
  • Photo Op with Dinosaurs – in the atrium.


Monday, December 28th – Jurassic Giants.

  • 10 a.m., 11 a.m., noon, 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m. – Stories and songs with children’s dinosaur author, “Mr. Mike” Sgrignoli. Mr. Mike will also lead a fond farewell for the day at 4:15 p.m.
  • Learn about herbivorous dinosaur diets from our friends at Longwood Gardens.
  • Help us build a new giant dinosaur with recycled materials.
  • 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. – The Delaware Art Museum offers their “Sketch It” program with dinosaur themes.
  • Turtle/Tortoise Feeding- 10:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m.
  • Bring your own fossils and try to stump the paleontologist, with our friends from Delaware Valley Paleontological Society.
  • Spotlight Tours:
    • Parasaurolophus- 10:30 a.m., 2:00 p.m.
    • Tuojiangosaurus- 1:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m.
    • Argentinosaurus – 11:30 a.m., 3:00 p.m.


Tuesday, December 29th – Tyrant Tuesday.

  • 10 a.m., 11 a.m., noon, 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m.  – Mr. Mike will be back with the Dinorific Scientific Name Game Show at Contestants and the audience will weigh in offering their opinions as real dinosaur names (and fake ones) are tossed out to ponder.
  • 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. – Kids under 12 can participate in our first roaring contest, led by Mr. Mike.
  • 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. – The Delaware Art Museum returns with their “Sketch It” program with dinosaur themes.
  • Bearded Dragon Feedings- 11:00 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2:00 p.m.
  • Spotlight Tours:
    • T-Rex – 10:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m.
    • Yangchuanosaurus – 11:30 a.m., 2:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m.


Wednesday, December 30th – Countdown to Extinction.

What happened to the dinosaurs? We’ll consider some theories and spend time with dinosaurs’ modern relatives.

  • Endangered! Tour – 9:45 a.m., 10:45 a.m., 1:45 p.m.
  • 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. – Free Flight Bird Show, presented by Animal Behavior and Conservation Connections, with free-flighted avian partners exhibiting natural behaviors and interacting with the audience. The show will be outside if weather permits, so dress accordingly.
  • Endangered! Animal Presentation – 10:30 a.m., noon, 1:30 p.m., 3:00 p.m.
  • Festive New Year Hat Craft
  • Where Did All the Dino’s Go? activity
  • Garry and the Complainers will rock the house all afternoon!
  • 4:00 p.m. – We’ll ring in the New Year early at the end of the day – with a balloon and meteor drop! This will be a fun way to celebrate the New Year at a time more convenient for families.
