Where will you be on August 21, 2017?
Fee: FREE with Museum Admission
Party until the sun goes down, or is hidden behind the moon! Museum staff has a wonderful celebration planned including: a special children’s story about the solar eclipse, eclipse viewing on Museum grounds, the science of the eclipse talk, NASA’s eclipse live stream viewing, scientist interviews about the eclipse, DMNH StarLab, as well as other fun and interactive eclipse activities and crafts! The party’s highlight is at 2:43:47 p.m. when a partial solar eclipse will be at its peak with 76.4% of the sun obscured by the moon. This is a rain or shine event.
Important note about eclipse glasses: We’ve received about as many questions as we have glasses! We will be selling wristbands when we open on Monday morning for $10 per pair — one wristband may be purchased with each paid admission to the Museum or your DMNH Membership. Glasses will be handed out on our back patio to those with wristbands right before first contact. Due to the length of the eclipse, glasses can be shared among friends and family. NASA recommends small children not use the glasses as they do not fit properly. We only have 100 pairs of glasses, so please plan accordingly!
