Roland E. Bounds’ (1953-2002) lifelong passion for geology began at age 6 when he first started collecting rocks. Over the years, his collection evolved and his knowledge grew.
After attending Concord High School in Wilmington, Delaware, he obtained a B.S. in geology from the University of Delaware. He went on to pursue graduate studies in mineralogy and applied geology at the University of Delaware and Oklahoma State University.
Roland became a noted mineral collector and dealer. He was a senior research technician with the Delaware Geological Survey. He regularly submitted articles to First State Geology, was a longtime editor of the Delaware Mineralogical Society’s newsletter, Geogram, and was active in the Pennsylvania Chapter of the Friends of Mineralogy.
