Girl Scout Programs

Act Fast! On-site programs at Winterthur are ending December 19. Registration closes Monday, December 6.

While our Museum prepares to reopen in mid-2022, we’re offering a suite of virtual programs to help your Girl Scouts work toward select badges. While we’re closed, take advantage of one of our three new outreach programs. Great for preparing for badges or just a fun addition to your meetings. See details below.

On-site programs will return in late 2022 when we’ve reopened as the Delaware Museum of Nature and Science.

On-site Information and Policies

Programs are held at Winterthur Museum, Garden and Library on Saturdays or Sundays between 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Programs run between 1.5 and 2 hours. Available only through the end of 2021.

  • $15 per scout/participant; $9 per adult
  • $99 minimum fee.
  • Scout patches are $1.50 per patch.
  • Each program consists of a 1.5 to 2 hour long in-person program held at Winterthur Museum, Garden, and Library.
  • Onsite Programs are currently limited to 25 participants maximum. For larger groups, multiple programs can be scheduled in a day (provided timeslots are available).
  • It is required that there be at least one adult for every six scouts/participants.
  • Onsite Programs are available on Saturdays or Sundays ONLY.
  • To schedule an Onsite Scout Program, please fill out a registration form using this link: Registration Form.
  • Programs must be scheduled at least two weeks in advance. We will do our best to accommodate any requests within that time period based on availability.
  • You will hear back from the DMNH Education Team within 5 business days of completing your registration form.

  • Cancellations must be made at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled program. If you cancel less than 48 hours prior to your program start time, you will not receive a refund for your program.
  • If a group does not show for their program, they will not receive a refund for that program, however, rescheduling may be possible at the discretion of DMNH.

Due to COVID-19, the following health & safety measures will be in effect for all in-person programs:

  • By making a reservation you agree to abide by our policies including wearing a mask.
  • All participants (including adults) over the age of 2 years old are required to maintain adequate social distancing AND wear a mask for the duration of the program.
  • Programs and activities are engaging and educational while following best practice guidelines from the State of DE and the CDC regarding social distancing procedures and hands-on activities.
  • All scheduled programs are subject to change at the behest of DMNH staff based on new or increased concerns over Covid-19.

Virtual Astronomy Programs

Book a virtual astronomy program for your group! This program hits requirements for various age groups so sign up your troop or join up with another troop. Each program explores an aspect of outer space, the Moon, stars and constellations, and all the things that call our solar system home. Select a specific program or choose them all!

Virtual Program Information and Policies

Day and evening hours available, booked based on your group’s scheduling needs. Programs run about 1.5 hours.

  • $10 per scout/participant; $9 per adult
  • $70 minimum fee.
  • Scout Patches must be purchased through the DMNH Gift Shop for Virtual programs.
  • Each program consists of a 1.5 hour live video presentation.
  • Virtual programs are limited to 15 participants maximum.
  • For larger groups, multiple programs can be scheduled on the same day (provided timeslots are available).
  • It is required that at least one adult representative of the group is present and actively observing for the entire duration of the program. This representative will also be in charge of dispersing all pertinent information and Zoom links provided by DMNH, to the program participants, as well as reminding participants about the program at least 24 hours prior to the program start time.
  • It is STRONGLY suggested that an adult be present to assist participants for each device being used during the presentation.

  • Programs must be scheduled at least two weeks in advance. We will do our best to accommodate any requests within that time period based on our availability.
  • You will hear back from the DMNH Education Team within 5 business days of completing your registration form.

  • If 15 minutes after the designated start time, no program participants are logged in, the program will be cancelled without reimbursement. Program time extensions in the case of late attendees cannot be guaranteed.

Outreach Program Options

Amazing Animals

Love animals and the environment? We do too! Explore the unique features of ecosystems and the amazing ways animals have adapted to live there! This program includes a visit from at least two of our animal ambassadors. Program can be adapted for all ages. 

Small Actions, Big Impact

Looking for ways to make a positive impact on the environment? Let us help your group find a handful of concrete habits that may seem small, but in the end have a big impact on the environment. This program includes a visit from one of our animal ambassadors. Best for Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts over age  7.

Trail Time!

Do you have a hike or camping trip planned in the future? In this outreach program, participants will learn the ins and outs of how to stay safe when exploring outdoors as well as digging into some of the Leave no Trace Principles. Best for Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts over age  7.

Outreach Program Information and Policies

For destinations more than 25 miles from the Delaware Museum of Natural History, a travel fee will apply.

  • $125 for one program; $115 for two programs; $100 for three or more programs.
  • Scout patches are $1.50 per patch.
  • Destinations over 25 miles from the Delaware Museum of Natural History one way, will be charged a travel fee.Travel Fee Amounts (one way):
    • 0 – 25 miles: Included in the program fee
    • 26-35 miles: $15.00
    • 35-45 miles: $30.00
    • 46-55 miles: $45.00
    • 56-65 miles: $60.00
    • 66-75 miles: $75.00
    • 76-85 miles: $90.00
    • 86-95 miles: $105.00
    • 96-105 miles: $120.00
  • Outreach programs consist of a 40-60 minute in-person program.

  • We require that at least TWO adults attend each Outreach program.
  • For programs that include live animals, please have a reliable adult available to help load/unload animals, as needed. Animal availability is subject to change depending on weather and animal needs.
